A home is the foundation for everyone’s lives. It is where they live their lives, raise their families, do whatever they do in their lives, develop their hopes and aspirations. It is where everyone would want to feel safe, healthy, secure and happy.
The culture of people living in homes should be the foundation of the social housing sector. However, Stop Social Housing Stigma (SSHS) is concerned that some language and terminology used in the sector may not support the principle that social housing is about people living in homes.
We want to:
- consider language used in the sector and raise debate about it
- promote a culture of home
- understand preferred language amongst tenants
- develop common currency about what language should be used
- inform Government and others about the best terminology to use.
